2. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels. Use a lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts on both front wheels. Do not remove the lug nuts completely.
3. Jack up the front of the Ford Ranger. Place a jack under the front axle and raise the vehicle until the front wheels are off the ground.
4. Remove the lug nuts and take off the front wheels. Use the lug wrench to remove the lug nuts completely and take off the front wheels.
5. Locate the transmission fluid pan. The transmission fluid pan is located under the transmission. It is a metal pan that is held in place by bolts.
6. Remove the transmission fluid pan. Use a wrench to loosen the bolts that hold the transmission fluid pan in place. Remove the pan and drain the transmission fluid into a catch pan.
7. Locate the flywheel. The flywheel is located at the rear of the engine. It is a large, metal disk that is connected to the crankshaft.
8. Remove the flywheel bolts. Use a wrench to loosen the bolts that hold the flywheel in place. Remove the bolts and take off the flywheel.
9. Install the new flywheel. Place the new flywheel on the crankshaft and align the bolt holes. Insert the flywheel bolts and tighten them until they are snug.
10. Reinstall the transmission fluid pan. Place the transmission fluid pan on the transmission and align the bolt holes. Insert the bolts and tighten them until they are snug.
11. Add transmission fluid. Add the correct amount of transmission fluid to the transmission. Check the transmission fluid level and add more fluid if necessary.
12. Reinstall the front wheels and lug nuts. Place the front wheels on the vehicle and align the lug nut holes. Insert the lug nuts and tighten them until they are snug.
13. Lower the Ford Ranger. Use the jack to lower the vehicle until the front wheels are on the ground.
14. Test the transmission. Start the Ford Ranger and shift the gears through all of the ranges. Make sure that the transmission shifts smoothly.
15. Road Test the Vehicle: Take the vehicle out on a road test to make sure the gears are working fine.
