1. Park your car in a safe location and turn off the engine.
2. Locate the fuel pump. The fuel pump is located under the rear seat of the Cavalier.
3. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. This will help prevent any sparks from occurring while you are working on the fuel lines.
4. Relieve the fuel system pressure. To do this, turn the key to the "On" position without starting the engine. This will cause the fuel pump to run and build up pressure in the fuel lines. After a few seconds, the fuel pump will turn off and the pressure will be relieved.
5. Locate the fuel lines. The fuel lines are connected to the fuel pump with quick-connect fittings.
6. Disconnect the fuel lines. Use a flat-head screwdriver or a fuel line disconnect tool to depress the tabs on the quick-connect fittings and pull the fuel lines off of the fuel pump.
7. Remove the fuel lines from the car. Once the fuel lines are disconnected, you can remove them from the car by following their routing.
Here are some additional tips for removing the fuel lines from the pump on a 1997 Chevy Cavalier:
* Be careful not to spill any fuel.
* If you do spill any fuel, clean it up immediately with a rag.
* Do not smoke or use any other sources of ignition while you are working on the fuel lines.
