Here are the steps involved in removing a Chevy Cavalier transmission:
1. Prepare your vehicle. Park your vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Raise your vehicle. Use the floor jack to raise the front of your vehicle until the wheels are off the ground. Place jack stands under the frame of your vehicle for support.
3. Locate the transmission drain plug. The transmission drain plug is located on the bottom of the transmission pan.
4. Drain the transmission fluid. Place a drain pan under the transmission drain plug and remove the plug. Allow the transmission fluid to drain into the pan.
5. Remove the transmission pan bolts. The transmission pan bolts are located around the perimeter of the transmission pan. Remove the bolts with a wrench or a socket.
6. Remove the transmission pan. Carefully remove the transmission pan from the transmission. Be careful not to spill any transmission fluid.
7. Locate the transmission mount bolts. The transmission mount bolts are located on the sides of the transmission. Remove the bolts with a wrench or a socket.
8. Support the transmission. Place the transmission jack under the transmission. Raise the transmission jack until the transmission is supported.
9. Disconnect the transmission lines. Disconnect the transmission lines from the transmission. Be careful not to spill any transmission fluid.
10. Disconnect the electrical connectors. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the transmission.
11. Remove the transmission bolts. The transmission bolts are located on the sides of the transmission. Remove the bolts with a wrench or a socket.
12. Lower the transmission. Lower the transmission jack until the transmission is removed from the vehicle.
Once you have removed the transmission, you can install the new transmission by following the steps in reverse order.
