1. New BMW battery (same group size and amp-hours as the original)
2. 10 mm socket wrench
3. 8mm socket wrench
4. Flat-head screwdriver or trim removal tool
Procedure:
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, turn off the engine, and engage the parking brake.
2. Open the hood of your vehicle. You can do this by pulling the hood release lever inside the vehicle, near the driver's seat.
3. Identify the battery. The battery is usually located in the engine bay near the front of the vehicle. It is a rectangular black or gray box with two terminals, one positive (+) and one negative (-).
4. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal first. Use the 10mm socket wrench to loosen the nut that secures the negative terminal cable to the battery. Remove the nut and washer, then lift the negative terminal cable off the battery post.
5. Disconnect the positive (+) terminal. Repeat the same process for the positive terminal cable.
6. Remove the battery hold-down clamp. Use the 8mm socket wrench to loosen the bolts securing the battery hold-down clamp. Carefully remove the battery clamp.
7. Lift out the battery. Grasp the battery by its handles, lift it straight up, and remove it from the engine bay. Be careful not to drop the battery.
8. Clean the battery terminals and tray. Use a wire brush to clean the terminals and the battery tray. This will help ensure good electrical contact.
9. Install the new battery. Carefully lower the new battery into the battery tray. Make sure the positive (+) terminal is facing the positive terminal on the battery and the negative (-) terminal is facing the negative terminal. If you are not sure which direction it goes you can check using the manual.
10. Reattach the battery hold-down clamp. Replace the battery hold-down clamp you removed. Make sure the clamp is tight.
11. Reconnect the positive (+) terminal. Replace the positive terminal cable onto the battery post. Then replace the nut and washer. Tighten the nut until it is snug.
12. Reconnect the negative (-) terminal. Repeat the same process for the negative terminal cable.
13. Close the hood.
14. Start the vehicle. If the battery was fully charged, you should be able to start the car as usual.
Note: When replacing a BMW battery, it is recommended to use an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) battery to ensure proper fit, performance, and longevity.
