To find cylinder #1:
1. Consult your owner's manual: This is the best resource. It should have a diagram showing the location of all spark plugs and their corresponding cylinder numbers.
2. Look for casting marks: The cylinder heads often have casting numbers (1,2,3,4) cast directly onto them. These will be near the spark plug wells, though they may be hard to read.
3. Use a diagram: Search online for "1995 S-10 2.2L engine diagram" or "1995 S-10 2.2L spark plug location." Many websites offer engine diagrams. Make sure the diagram matches your specific engine.
4. Trace the firing order: If you can identify one spark plug, and know the firing order (1-3-4-2), you can deduce the location of the others by following the order around the engine. This is less reliable than using a diagram or the owner's manual.
Important: Before working on your engine, always disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent accidental shorts.
