1. Disconnect the battery: Before you begin any work on the fuel system, disconnect the battery to avoid any sparks that could ignite fuel vapors.
2. Relieve fuel system pressure: To do this, turn the ignition key to the "ON" position (without starting the engine) and leave it for a few minutes. This will allow the fuel system pressure to bleed off.
3. Jack up the car and support it securely.
4. Locate the fuel tank: The fuel tank is located under the rear of the car.
5. Disconnect the fuel lines: There are two fuel lines connected to the fuel tank. Disconnect them using a fuel line wrench or pliers.
6. Disconnect the electrical connectors: There are two electrical connectors connected to the fuel tank. Disconnect them by pressing the release tabs and pulling apart.
7. Remove the fuel tank mounting straps: There are two fuel tank mounting straps that hold the fuel tank in place. Remove the bolts or screws that hold these straps in place.
8. Lower the fuel tank: Once the mounting straps are removed, you can carefully lower the fuel tank from the car. Be careful not to drop the fuel tank, as it is heavy.
Reinstallation is the reverse procedure of removal. Be sure to tighten all bolts and screws securely and reconnect all electrical connectors and fuel lines properly. It's also a good idea to replace the fuel filter when reinstalling the fuel tank.
