How do you set ignition timing on a 98 volkswagen cabrio 2.0?

1. Park the car in a safe location and turn off the engine.

2. Locate the distributor cap. It is usually located near the front of the engine, on top of the cylinder head.

3. Remove the distributor cap by turning it counterclockwise.

4. Locate the rotor button inside the distributor cap. The rotor button is connected to the distributor shaft, and it rotates as the engine runs.

5. Align the rotor button with the number one spark plug wire terminal on the distributor cap. The number one spark plug wire is usually marked with a "1" or a "T".

6. Turn the crankshaft pulley until the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley aligns with the "0" mark on the timing belt cover.

7. Tighten the distributor hold-down bolt to secure the distributor in place.

8. Reinstall the distributor cap and turn it clockwise until it clicks into place.

9. Start the engine and check the ignition timing. The ignition timing should be within the specifications listed in the vehicle's owner's manual.
