1. Prepare your vehicle. Park your vehicle on a level surface, apply the parking brake, and turn off the engine.
2. Locate the oil pan. The oil drain plug is located on the bottom of the oil pan, which is a large metal pan that holds the engine oil.
- To locate the oil pan, look underneath the front of your vehicle. The oil pan is typically located near the middle of the vehicle, and it is often covered by a plastic skid plate.
3. Locate the oil drain plug. The oil drain plug is a small, round bolt that is located on the bottom of the oil pan. It may be covered with dirt or debris, so clean the area around the plug before attempting to remove it.
4. Loosen the oil drain plug. Use a wrench to loosen the oil drain plug. Turn the plug counterclockwise until it is completely loosened.
5. Allow the oil to drain. Once the oil drain plug is loosened, allow the oil to drain into the oil drain pan. This process may take a few minutes.
6. Replace the oil drain plug. Once the oil has completely drained, replace the oil drain plug. Tighten the plug clockwise until it is snug.
7. Dispose of the old oil properly. Take the old oil to a recycling center or disposal facility.
8. Refill the engine with oil. Use a funnel to add new engine oil to the engine. The oil fill port is located on the top of the engine. Refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for the correct type and amount of oil to use.
9. Check the oil level. Use the dipstick to check the oil level. The oil level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.
