Where is the oil filter on vw t4?

Locate the Oil Drain Plug

• Before you get under the vehicle, locate the oil drain plug. This will help once the oil filter is removed.

Jack the Van Up

• Engage the parking brake.

• Put the transmission into park if it’s an automatic or first gear for a manual transmission.

• Put chocks behind the wheels so it won’t move on you once raised.

• Lift the front of the van and secure it with jack stands.

Locate the Oil Filter Housing

• Find the oil filter housing. On this particular Volkswagen T4 engine, it’s at the bottom of the engine block, right behind the oil pan.

Remove the Oil Filter Housing Cover

• Use a 16 mm wrench to remove the bolts around the oil filter cover.

• There are two bolts near the oil pan and two near the top.

• After the four bolts are removed, pry up the oil filter cover.

Take Out the Oil Filter

• Now you can access the oil filter. Grip it with your hand and take it out of the oil filter housing.

• Be careful not to spill any oil.

Apply Oil to the New Oil Filter

• Dip your finger into a small amount of new oil and lubricate the gasket on the new filter. This helps the filter seal and not get stuck when it’s time to remove it.

Put the New Oil Filter In

• Press the new filter down into the oil filter housing.

• Push until the gasket contacts the surface and then give it another 3/4 of a turn.

• Do not over tighten.

Replace the Oil Filter Cover

• Put the oil filter cover back into the housing and start tightening the four bolts.

• Do not overtighten.

Replace the Oil Drain Plug

• Put the oil drain plug back into the oil pan and tighten it until snug. Do not overtighten.

Lower the Vehicle and Add New Oil

• Lower the vehicle and refill it with new oil.
