- 1/2-inch drive ratchet and socket set
- Harmonic balancer puller
- 3/8-inch drive ratchet and socket set
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Locate the harmonic balancer on the front of the engine.
3. Place the harmonic balancer puller on the balancer.
4. Tighten the puller until the balancer comes loose.
5. Remove the puller and the balancer.
Here are some additional tips:
- Be careful not to drop the harmonic balancer. It is heavy and can cause damage if it falls.
- If you do not have a harmonic balancer puller, you can try using a pry bar to remove the balancer. Be careful not to pry against the timing cover, as this could damage it.
- If the harmonic balancer is stuck, you may need to use a penetrating oil to loosen it up.
Once you have removed the harmonic balancer, you can replace it with a new one. To install the new balancer, simply reverse the steps above.
