How do you change spark plugs on a 2001 Lincoln Navigator?

Tools Needed:

- Spark plug socket

- Spark plug wrench

- Gapping tool

- Ratchet

Instructions:

1. Locate the spark plugs. The spark plugs are located on the top of the engine, under the ignition coils.

2. Disconnect the ignition coils. To do this, use the ratchet to remove the bolts holding the coils in place. Then, pull the coils up and out of the spark plug wells.

3. Remove the old spark plugs. Use the spark plug socket and wrench to remove the old spark plugs. Be careful not to drop the old spark plugs into the spark plug wells.

4. Inspect the old spark plugs. Look for signs of wear, such as erosion, pitting, or fouling. If the old spark plugs are in poor condition, replace them with new ones.

5. Check the gap on the new spark plugs. The gap between the electrodes of the spark plug should be set to the manufacturer's specification. Use the gapping tool to check the gap and adjust it if necessary.

6. Install the new spark plugs. Hand-tighten the new spark plugs until they are snug. Then, use the spark plug wrench to tighten them to the manufacturer's specification.

7. Reinstall the ignition coils. Place the ignition coils back into the spark plug wells and align the bolt holes. Then, use the ratchet to reinstall the bolts and tighten them until they are snug.

Tips:

- Be careful not to drop the old spark plugs into the spark plug wells. If this happens, you will have to remove the cylinder head to retrieve them.

- Check the gap on the new spark plugs before reinstalling them. The wrong gap can cause engine problems.

- Tighten the spark plugs to the manufacturer's specification. Overtightening the spark plugs can damage the threads in the cylinder head.

- Be careful not to touch the hot engine parts. Allow the engine to cool down before starting this procedure.
