How do you align the engine before put timing belt on for 1994 2.0L Sunbird?

To align the engine before putting on the timing belt for a 1994 2.0L Sunbird:

1. Locate the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and the camshaft sprocket. The crankshaft pulley timing mark is a notch on the outer edge of the pulley. The camshaft sprocket timing mark is a small dot on the edge of the sprocket.

2. Rotate the crankshaft until the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and the camshaft sprocket are aligned.

3. Check that the piston in the number one cylinder is at top dead center by inserting a screwdriver or other long, thin object into the spark plug hole of the number one cylinder and turning the crankshaft until the piston is at the highest point of its travel. The screwdriver should be straight up and down when the piston is at top dead center.

4. If the timing marks are not aligned or the piston is not at top dead center, continue rotating the crankshaft until they are.

5. Once the timing marks are aligned and the piston is at top dead center, you can install the timing belt.
