1. Disconnect the battery. This is important to prevent any electrical damage while you are working on the ignition lock cylinder.
2. Remove the steering wheel. This will give you access to the ignition lock cylinder.
3. Remove the ignition switch cover. This is usually held in place by a few screws.
4. Remove the lock cylinder retaining screw. This screw is located at the bottom of the ignition lock cylinder.
5. Pull the ignition lock cylinder out of the housing. Be careful not to damage the wiring or lock cylinder.
6. Disconnect the wiring from the ignition lock cylinder. There are usually two or three wires that connect to the ignition lock cylinder.
7. Remove the ignition lock cylinder from the vehicle.
8. Take your old ignition lock to an auto parts store or a locksmith, you might be able to get it rekeyed to your current key so you can continue using the existing key that you have been using for your car.
Before re-installing the ignition lock cylinder, make sure that the key can turn the cylinder smoothly and that the cylinder is properly aligned with the steering column.
