1. Gather your tools and materials. You will need:
- A new fuel pump (Nissan part number 17040-6G000)
- Fuel line quick connect disconnect tools (available at most auto parts stores)
- A socket wrench set
- A Phillips head screwdriver
- A pair of pliers
- A flashlight
2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. This will prevent any sparks from occurring while you are working on the fuel system.
3. Remove the rear seat bottom cushion. There are two latches on the front edge of the cushion, one on each side. Pull up on the latches to release the cushion and then remove it from the vehicle.
4. Remove the fuel pump access cover. The access cover is located on the top of the fuel tank. There are four screws that hold the access cover in place. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws and then lift off the access cover.
5. Disconnect the fuel lines. There are two fuel lines connected to the fuel pump. Use the fuel line quick connect disconnect tools to disconnect the lines. Be careful not to spill any fuel.
6. Remove the fuel pump mounting bracket nuts and locknuts. There are four nuts and four locknuts that hold the fuel pump mounting bracket in place. Use a socket wrench to remove the nuts and locknuts. The fuel pump mounting bracket will then come loose.
7. Remove the fuel pump. Lift the fuel pump out of the fuel tank. Be careful not to drop the fuel pump into the tank.
8. Inspect the fuel pump. Check the fuel pump for any damage. If the fuel pump is damaged, replace it with a new one.
9. Repeat steps 4-11 in reverse order to install the new fuel pump.
10. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
