To set the ignition timing, you will need:
- A timing light
- A wrench
1. Start the engine and let it reach normal operating temperature.
2. Connect the timing light to the spark plug wire for cylinder number one.
3. Aim the timing light at the timing marks on the engine. The timing marks are located on the crankshaft pulley and the timing cover.
4. Turn the distributor housing until the timing marks are aligned.
5. Tighten the distributor hold-down bolt.
If you are not comfortable setting the ignition timing yourself, you can take your vehicle to a qualified mechanic.
