1. Gather the necessary tools and materials:
- New oil filter (check your owner's manual for the correct size)
- Oil filter wrench
- Oil drain pan
- Funnel
- Fresh oil (check your owner's manual for the correct type and amount)
- Rags or paper towels
- Gloves
2. Prepare your Honda Pilot:
- Park your vehicle on a level surface.
- Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Open the hood of your vehicle.
3. Locate the oil filter:
- The oil filter is typically located near the top of the engine, on the passenger side.
- It is a cylindrical-shaped component with a black or silver finish.
4. Remove the old oil filter:
- Place the oil drain pan underneath the oil filter.
- Use the oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the old oil filter.
- Be careful not to spill any oil.
5. Clean the oil filter area:
- Use a rag or paper towel to clean the oil filter area, removing any dirt or debris.
6. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter:
- This will help to create a seal and prevent leaks.
7. Screw on the new oil filter:
- Hand-tighten the new oil filter until it is snug.
- Do not over-tighten the oil filter.
8. Add new oil to the engine:
- Use the funnel to add new oil to the engine.
- Add the amount of oil specified in your owner's manual.
- Check the oil level using the dipstick. The oil level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.
9. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes:
- This will circulate the new oil throughout the engine.
- Check for any leaks around the oil filter.
10. Turn off the engine and check the oil level again:
- The oil level should still be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.
11. Close the hood of your vehicle:
- Your oil change is now complete.
Additional tips:
- When choosing a new oil filter, look for a filter that is specifically designed for your Honda Pilot.
- If you are unable to remove the old oil filter with the oil filter wrench, you can use a screwdriver or other tool to puncture the filter and drain the oil.
- Be careful not to over-tighten the new oil filter. This can damage the filter and cause it to leak.
- If you spill any oil, be sure to clean it up immediately. Oil can be harmful to the environment.
- Always dispose of old oil and filters properly. Check with your local recycling center for information on how to dispose of these materials.
