Disconnect the Negative Battery Terminal:
1. Turn off the engine of your Lexus ES300.
2. Locate the negative (-) battery terminal under the hood.
3. Use a wrench or a socket set to loosen the nut or bolt securing the negative battery cable.
4. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery terminal and move it aside to prevent it from accidentally coming into contact with the positive terminal.
Wait Approximately 15 Minutes:
5. Leave the negative battery cable disconnected for about 15 minutes. This will allow the car's electrical system, including the Electronic Control Unit (ECU), to fully discharge and reset.
Reconnect the Negative Battery Terminal:
6. After waiting, reconnect the negative battery cable to the negative battery terminal. Tighten the nut or bolt to secure the cable in place.
Turn on the Engine:
7. Get inside the car and start the engine normally.
Check the Indicator:
8. Observe the instrument cluster as the car starts. If the Check Engine Indicator had been illuminated before, it should be turned off now.
NOTE: If the Check Engine Indicator remains on or comes back on after completing these steps, it's recommended to have the car diagnosed by a qualified mechanic or take it to a Lexus dealership.
