To put fluid in the slave cylinder on a 2000 Toyota Tacoma, follow these steps:
- Locate the slave cylinder. The slave cylinder is located on the bottom of the transmission bell housing. Remove the retaining bolt which secures the slave cylinder push rod to your truck's clutch fork.
- Remove the clutch master cylinder reservoir cap. To do this, push down on the tab on the top of the cap and turn the cap counterclockwise until it comes off.
- Add brake fluid to the reservoir until the fluid level is between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks on the side of the reservoir.
- Replace the clutch master cylinder reservoir cap.
- Slowly apply pressure on the clutch pedal and depress it down all the way. While keeping the pedal fully depressed, have an assistant bleed the slave cylinder by loosening the bleeder screw on the slave cylinder until fluid starts to come out. Tighten the bleeder screw once fluid starts to come out.
- Repeat steps 4 and 5 until no more air bubbles come out of the bleeder screw. Once no more air bubbles come out, tighten the bleeder screw and top off the clutch master cylinder reservoir with brake fluid if necessary.
- Test the clutch pedal to ensure it feels firm and engages the clutch properly.
Note: If you find that you have to refill the clutch master cylinder reservoir frequently, there may be a leak in the clutch hydraulic system. Inspect the lines for leaks and repair any leaks as necessary.
