- New water pump
- Water pump gasket
- Thermostat and gasket (optional)
- Coolant
- Wrench set
- Socket set
- Screwdriver
- Pliers
- Shop rags
- Safety goggles
Instructions:
1. Drain the coolant. Place a drain pan under the radiator and remove the drain plug. Allow the coolant to drain completely.
2. Remove the serpentine belt. Loosen the tensioner pulley bolt and remove the serpentine belt.
3. Remove the water pump. There are four bolts that hold the water pump in place. Remove these bolts and carefully remove the water pump. Be careful not to spill any coolant that is still in the pump.
4. Clean the mating surface. Clean the mating surface of the engine block and the water pump with a shop rag. This will ensure a good seal between the gasket and the block.
5. Install the new water pump gasket. Place the new gasket on the mating surface of the engine block. Make sure the gasket is properly aligned.
6. Install the new water pump. Carefully place the new water pump in position and install the four bolts. Tighten the bolts evenly in a criss-cross pattern.
7. Reinstall the serpentine belt. Place the serpentine belt back on the pulleys and tension it properly.
8. Refill the coolant. Add coolant to the radiator until it reaches the "full" mark.
9. Start the engine and check for leaks. Run the engine for a few minutes and check for leaks. If there are no leaks, turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
10. Reconnect the battery. Reconnect the battery cable to the battery terminal.
Optional Steps:
- Replace the thermostat. If the thermostat is old or damaged, it is a good idea to replace it at the same time as the water pump.
- Flush the cooling system. If the cooling system is dirty, it is a good idea to flush it before refilling it with coolant.
