How do you change the spark plugs on a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer 4WD 5.0l?

Tools:

- Spark plug socket

- Spark plug wrench

- Ratchet

- Extension

- Gapping tool (if needed)

- New spark plugs

Procedure:

1. Locate the spark plugs on the engine. They are located on top of the engine, near the front.

2. Disconnect the ignition system wiring from the spark plugs. Pull on the boot, not the wire.

3. Use the spark plug wrench to loosen the spark plugs but do not remove them yet.

4. Use the spark plug socket, an extension, and a ratchet to remove the spark plugs.

5. Check the gap on the new spark plugs and adjust it if necessary using the gapping tool.

6. Screw in the new spark plugs by hand until they are snug.

7. Tighten the spark plugs with the ratchet, extension, and spark plug wrench.

8. Reconnect the spark plug wires.

9. Restart the engine.
