Tools and Materials Needed:

- Jack stands

- Socket set

- Hammer

- Chisel

- Replacement wheel bearing

- Grease

- Axle nut wrench

Instructions:

1. Park your vehicle on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and chock the rear wheels.

2. Use the lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts on the wheel. Do not remove the lug nuts completely.

3. Raise your vehicle with the floor jack. Place the floor jack under the frame and raise your vehicle until the tires are approximately six inches off the ground.

4. Place the jack stands under your vehicle. Position the jack stands under the frame and lower the vehicle until it is resting on the jack stands.

5. Remove the wheel from your vehicle. Use the lug wrench to remove the lug nuts and then pull the wheel straight off of the hub.

6. Locate the wheel bearing. The wheel bearing is located behind the rotor on the front of the wheel hub.

7. Remove the wheel bearing. Use a socket set to remove the bolts that hold the wheel bearing in place. Then, use a hammer and chisel to remove the bearing from the hub.

8. Grease the new wheel bearing. Apply a generous amount of grease to the new bearing.

9. Install the new wheel bearing. Place the new bearing into the hub and use a socket set to reinstall the bolts.

10. Reinstall the wheel. Reinstall the wheel onto the hub and use a lug wrench to reinstall the lug nuts. Tighten the lug nuts until they are snug.

11. Lower the vehicle to the ground. Use the floor jack to lower the vehicle until it is resting on the ground.

12. Test the new wheel bearing. Roll your vehicle forward and backward to test the new wheel bearing. There should be no noise or grinding coming from the bearing.

13. Reinstall the hubcap or wheel cover. Reinstall the hubcap or wheel cover to complete the job.

Once you have completed these steps, you will have successfully changed the front wheel bearing on your 95 Ford Explorer 4WD.
