Park your vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine.
Open the hood of your car.
Locate the transmission fluid dipstick. It is usually marked with a yellow or red handle and is located near the back of the engine compartment.
Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a cloth.
Reinsert the dipstick all the way back into the transmission fluid tube.
Pull the dipstick out again and check the fluid level. It should be between the "Full" and "Add" marks on the dipstick.
If the fluid level is low, you can add more transmission fluid through the dipstick tube. Use only the type of fluid recommended in your vehicle's owner's manual.
Reinsert the dipstick and make sure it is securely seated.
Close the hood of your car.
It's important to check the transmission fluid level regularly to ensure that your vehicle's transmission is operating properly. If you notice any unusual symptoms, such as slipping or jerking of the transmission, or if the fluid is dark or smells burnt, it's best to have your vehicle checked by a qualified mechanic.
