Materials:
Socket Wrench (10 mm)
Phillips-Head Screwdriver
Replacement Tail Light assembly (check your vehicle's manual for the specific part number)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Prepare the Vehicle: Park your Arcadia in a safe location, apply the parking brake, and turn off the engine.
2. Open the Trunk: Locate the trunk release button inside your vehicle or use your key fob to open the trunk.
3. Locate the Tail Light Assembly: Inside the trunk, look for the tail light assembly on the affected side. It's usually held in place by a few bolts or screws.
4. Remove the Access Cover: Use the screwdriver to remove any fasteners holding the access cover in place, exposing the tail light assembly.
5. Remove the Old Assembly: Once you have access to the tail light assembly, use the socket wrench to loosen and remove the bolts or screws holding the assembly in place. Some models might have locking nuts that need to be turned in opposite directions.
6. Disconnect the Electrical Connector: Gently disconnect the electrical connector attached to the tail light assembly. Make sure to remember which wire is connected to which terminal for reinstallation.
7. Remove the Old Tail Light: Pull out the old tail light assembly carefully, being mindful of any additional wiring clips or fasteners that might need to be released.
8. Position the New Assembly: Take your new tail light assembly and position it into place, aligning the mounting holes with those on your vehicle.
9. Secure the Assembly: Reinsert the bolts or screws that you removed in step 5 to secure the new tail light assembly. Tighten the bolts until snug, but be careful not to over-tighten.
10. Reconnect the Wiring: Reconnect the electrical connector from the vehicle to the corresponding connection points on the new tail light assembly.
11. Replace the Access Cover: Put back the access cover that you removed in step 4 and secure it with the fasteners.
12. Close the Trunk: Ensure the trunk is securely closed before proceeding.
13. Test the Light: Turn on your vehicle's lights and check to ensure the tail light is functioning correctly.
Always consult your vehicle's owner manual before attempting any repairs, as specific steps may vary depending on the year and trim level of your GMC Arcadia.
