How do you change the serpentine belt on a 2002 Chrysler town and country mini-van 3.8 engine?

Step 1: Gather the necessary tools.

You will need a new serpentine belt, a ratchet with the appropriate size socket, and a breaker bar.

Step 2: Elevate the van and remove the front passenger side tire.

If you don’t have access to a car lift, you can raise the van and support it with jack stands and place the wheel chocks behind the rear tires.

Step 3: Locate the serpentine belt.

The serpentine belt is located on the front of the engine and wraps around the crankshaft pulley, the power steering pump pulley, the water pump pulley, and the alternator pulley.

Step 4: Release the tension on the serpentine belt.

Use the breaker bar to release the tension on the serpentine belt by inserting it into the square hole in the belt tensioner and pushing down on the tensioner until the belt loosens.

Step 5: Remove the serpentine belt.

Once the tension is released, you can remove the serpentine belt by slipping it off of the pulleys.

Step 6: Install the new serpentine belt.

Start by slipping the new serpentine belt around the crankshaft pulley, then the power steering pump pulley, the water pump pulley, and finally the alternator pulley. Make sure that the belt is properly seated on all of the pulleys.

Step 7: Reapply the tension to the serpentine belt.

Use the breaker bar to reapply tension to the serpentine belt by pushing down on the tensioner until the belt is tight.

Step 8: Replace the front passenger side tire, and lower the van.

Your serpentine belt replacement is now complete!
