1. Rear freeze plug: The rear freeze plug is located at the back of the engine block, behind the distributor. If this plug is loose or damaged, it can leak coolant.
2. Intake manifold gasket: The intake manifold gasket is located between the intake manifold and the engine block. If this gasket is damaged, it can allow coolant to leak into the lifter valley or onto the exhaust manifolds.
3. Cylinder head gasket: The cylinder head gasket is located between the cylinder head and the engine block. If this gasket is damaged, it can allow coolant to leak into the combustion chambers or into the lifter valley.
4. Water pump gasket: The water pump gasket is located between the water pump and the engine block. If this gasket is damaged, it can leak coolant onto the back of the engine.
5. Heater hose connections: The heater hoses connect the engine to the heater core. If the hose connections are loose or damaged, they can leak coolant.
To identify the source of the leak, you can use a flashlight and a mirror to inspect the back of the engine. Look for any signs of coolant dripping or leaking. You can also use a coolant pressure tester to pressurize the cooling system and look for leaks.
Once you have identified the source of the leak, you can repair it by replacing the faulty component or tightening the loose connection.
