1. Gather your tools and materials. You will need:
* A new oil filter (check your owner's manual for the correct size)
* A new oil filter gasket (if necessary)
* A drain pan
* A wrench
* Some rags
2. Prepare your car. Park your car on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn the engine off. Allow the engine to cool down if it is hot.
3. Locate the oil filter. The oil filter is located under the hood of your car, near the bottom of the engine. It is a cylindrical-shaped object with a black cap.
4. Place the drain pan under the oil filter. This will catch any oil that may leak out when you remove the filter.
5. Loosen the oil filter. Use the wrench to loosen the oil filter by turning it counterclockwise. Be careful not to drop the oil filter into the drain pan.
6. Remove the oil filter. Once the oil filter is loose, remove it from the engine. Be careful not to spill any oil.
7. Clean the oil filter mounting surface. Use a rag to clean the oil filter mounting surface on the engine. This will ensure that the new oil filter will seal properly.
8. Apply a thin coat of oil to the gasket of the new oil filter. This will help to create a seal and prevent leaks.
9. Screw on the new oil filter. Hand-tighten the oil filter until it is snug. Do not overtighten the oil filter.
10. Refill the engine with oil. Check your owner's manual for the correct amount of oil.
11. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the new oil throughout the engine.
12. Check for leaks. Inspect the oil filter and the oil filter mounting surface for any leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the oil filter until the leaks stop.
