Why would your window air conditioner develop ice on the front coils?

1. Low refrigerant level:

- If your air conditioner is low on refrigerant, it will not be able to absorb heat as efficiently, causing the coils to freeze over.

2. Dirty evaporator coils:

- Dirty evaporator coils can block airflow, restricting the refrigerant's ability to absorb heat and causing the coils to freeze over.

3. Thermostat set too low:

- If your thermostat is set too low, the air conditioner will run for longer periods of time, which can lead to the coils freezing over.

4. Blocked airflow:

- Anything blocking the airflow into or out of the air conditioner can cause the coils to freeze over. Make sure there are no curtains, furniture, or other objects blocking the vents.

5. Malfunctioning fan:

- If the fan in your air conditioner is not working properly, it will not be able to circulate air around the coils, causing them to freeze over.

6. Faulty temperature sensor:

- A faulty temperature sensor can cause the air conditioner to misread the room temperature and run for longer periods of time than necessary, leading to the coils freezing over.

7. Compressor problems:

- Compressor problems can cause the refrigerant pressure to drop, leading to the coils freezing over.

8. Damaged evaporator coil:

- If the evaporator coil is damaged, it can allow refrigerant to leak out, causing the coils to freeze over.
