Renault Megane 1.6 16V Cylinder Head Torque Settings and Sequence

Step 1: Remove the old cylinder head gasket.

1. Drain the coolant from the engine.

2. Remove the intake manifold.

3. Remove the exhaust manifold.

4. Remove the upper timing belt cover.

5. Remove the camshafts.

6. Remove the cylinder head bolts.

7. Carefully remove the cylinder head.

Step 2: Clean the cylinder head and block surfaces.

1. Use a scraper to remove any old gasket material from the cylinder head and block surfaces.

2. Clean the surfaces with a degreaser.

3. Allow the surfaces to dry completely.

Step 3: Install the new cylinder head gasket.

1. Apply a thin coat of sealant to the cylinder head gasket.

2. Carefully position the cylinder head gasket on the block.

3. Make sure that the gasket is properly aligned.

Step 4: Install the cylinder head bolts.

1. Start by installing the two bolts on the front of the cylinder head.

2. Tighten the bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft-lbs).

3. Install the remaining cylinder head bolts.

4. Tighten the bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft-lbs).

Step 5: Torque the cylinder head bolts in sequence.

1. Follow the torque sequence shown in the diagram below.

2. Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft-lbs) in the sequence shown.

3. Repeat the torque sequence two more times, tightening the bolts to 30 Nm (22 ft-lbs) and then 35 Nm (26 ft-lbs).

Step 6: Install the remaining components.

1. Install the camshafts.

2. Install the upper timing belt cover.

3. Install the exhaust manifold.

4. Install the intake manifold.

5. Fill the engine with coolant.

Step 7: Start the engine and check for leaks.

1. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.

2. Check for any leaks around the cylinder head.

3. If there are no leaks, drive the car for a few miles and then check for leaks again.
