All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are considered motor vehicles and must be titled and registered in the state of Ohio. To obtain a title for your ATV, you will need to complete the following steps:
1. Ensure your ATV meets all safety requirements. All ATVs must be equipped with headlights, taillights, a horn, and a rear-view mirror. They must also be registered and display a valid license plate.
2. Obtain a Certificate of Title (Form BMV 101). This form can be obtained from any Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) office or downloaded from the BMV website.
3. Complete the Certificate of Title. You will need to provide the following information on the form:
Your name and address
The make, model, and year of your ATV
The vehicle identification number (VIN)
The purchase price of your ATV
4. Sign and notarize the Certificate of Title.
5. Submit the following items to your local BMV office:
The completed Certificate of Title
The original bill of sale or purchase agreement
Proof of insurance
A valid driver's license
6. Pay the title fee. The title fee is $15.
7. You will be given a new title for your ATV. You must keep this title in a safe place as it is proof of ownership.
It is important to note that you must title and register your ATV within 30 days of purchase or moving into the state of Ohio. If you fail to do so, you may be subject to penalties.
