- New glow plugs (check your owner's manual for the correct size)
- Socket wrench set
- Extension bar
- Universal joint
- Spark plug wrench
- Thread sealant
- Dielectric grease
Instructions:
1. Allow the engine to cool down. Glow plugs should be replaced when the engine is cold to avoid damaging the threads.
2. Remove the engine cover. This is usually held in place by a few bolts or clips.
3. Locate the glow plugs. They are usually located on the cylinder head, near the fuel injectors.
4. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the glow plugs.
5. Use the spark plug wrench to loosen and remove the glow plugs. Be careful not to drop the glow plugs into the cylinder head.
6. Apply a small amount of thread sealant to the threads of the new glow plugs.
7. Screw in the new glow plugs by hand until they are snug.
8. Use the spark plug wrench to tighten the glow plugs to the specified torque.
9. Reconnect the electrical connectors to the glow plugs.
10. Reinstall the engine cover.
Tips:
- Be careful not to over-tighten the glow plugs. This can damage the threads in the cylinder head.
- If you have difficulty removing the glow plugs, you may need to use a penetrating oil. Apply the penetrating oil to the threads of the glow plugs and let it sit for a few minutes before trying to remove them.
- Dielectric grease can be applied to the electrical connectors to help prevent corrosion.
