How do you replace the low beam headlights on a 1998 Ford Contour?

Tools and Material

- New H1 headlight bulb

- Phillips Head Screwdriver

- Torx T-15 Driver

Instructions

1. Open your hood. Locate the rubber cover on the back of the headlight housing.

2. Remove the rubber headlight housing cover by turning the retaining ring on the back of the cover counterclockwise and pulling the cover off.

3. Locate the three Torx T-15 screws holding the bulb assembly to the assembly, and loosen these screws. (Do not remove them yet.)

4. Reach behind the headlight assembly to the two Phillips head screws that hold the bulb assembly bracket in place. Remove the two Phillips head screws.

5. Remove the bulb assembly from the headlight housing.

6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the back of the bulb.

7. Press down on the spring retaining clip on the side of the bulb and turn the old bulb counterclockwise 1/4 turn.

8. Remove the old bulb.

9. Install the new bulb into the socket, secure the retaining clip, and reconnect the electrical connector to the back of the bulb.

10. Secure the bulb assembly to the headlight housing bracket with the two Phillips head screws that were removed in Step 4.

11. Tighten the three Torx screws holding the bulb assembly to the assembly.

12. Replace the rubber headlight housing cover.

13. Close your hood.
