* Camshaft timing mark: The camshaft timing mark is located on the front of the cylinder head. It is a small notch that is aligned with a corresponding mark on the camshaft sprocket.
* Crankshaft timing mark: The crankshaft timing mark is located on the front of the crankshaft. It is a small notch that is aligned with a corresponding mark on the oil pump housing.
To set the timing on a 1990 Toyota Tercel Hatchback with the 3E engine, you will need the following tools:
* A timing light
* A socket wrench set
* A screwdriver
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the timing belt covers.
3. Locate the crankshaft timing mark and align it with the corresponding mark on the oil pump housing.
4. Locate the camshaft timing mark and align it with the corresponding mark on the camshaft sprocket.
5. If the timing marks are not aligned, you will need to adjust the camshaft position. To do this, loosen the camshaft sprocket bolts and turn the camshaft until the marks are aligned.
6. Once the timing marks are aligned, tighten the camshaft sprocket bolts.
7. Reinstall the timing belt covers.
8. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
9. Start the engine and check the timing with a timing light. The timing should be set at 10 degrees before the top dead center (BTDC).
