Park the Mule on level ground and turn off the engine. Engage the parking brake to prevent the Mule from rolling.
Locate the rear brake calipers on the rear wheels. The calipers are typically mounted to the rear axle housing.
Remove the cotter pin and castle nut from the brake caliper mounting bolts.
Remove the brake caliper mounting bolts and carefully remove the caliper from the brake rotor.
Inspect the brake pads for wear. If the pads are less than 1/8 inch thick, they should be replaced.
Clean the brake caliper and rotor with brake cleaner to remove any dirt or debris.
Install new brake pads into the brake caliper. Make sure the pads are seated properly.
Reinstall the brake caliper onto the brake rotor and secure it with the mounting bolts.
Install the castle nut and cotter pin to secure the mounting bolts.
Repeat steps 5-9 for the other rear wheel.
Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder and add more fluid if necessary.
Pump the brake pedal several times to ensure the new brake pads are seated properly.
Test the brakes by riding the Mule and applying the brakes.
