- New transmission oil (SAE 10W-40)
- Oil drain pan
- Funnel
- 17mm wrench or socket
- Rags
Instructions:
Preparation:
1. Make sure the bike is leveled.
2. Warm the bike up for a few minutes to make it easier to drain the old oil.
Draining the Old Oil:
1. Locate the transmission oil drain plug on the bottom left side of the bike, near the rear brake pedal.
2. Clean the drain plug and the surrounding area with a rag to prevent dirt and debris from entering the transmission.
3. Place the drain pan under the drain plug to catch the old oil.
4. Use the 17mm wrench or socket to loosen the drain plug.
5. Allow the oil to drain completely.
Refilling with New Oil:
1. Once all the old oil has drained out, replace the drain plug and tighten it securely.
2. Locate the transmission oil fill plug, which is located on the right side of the bike, just below the footpeg.
3. Clean the oil fill plug and the surrounding area with a rag.
4. Remove the oil fill plug.
5. Use a funnel to add new transmission oil to the bike.
6. Refer to the owner's manual for the recommended oil capacity. Typically, it is around 750ml for the 2001 Honda CR250.
7. Replace the oil fill plug and tighten it securely.
Checking the Oil Level:
1. Start the bike and let it run for a few minutes to warm up the oil.
2. Stop the bike and wait for a few minutes for the oil to settle.
3. Use the dipstick to check the oil level. The oil level should be between the "min" and "max" marks on the dipstick. If necessary, add more oil until the level is correct.
That completes the process of changing the transmission oil on a 2001 Honda CR250. Be sure to dispose of the old oil properly and remember to check the oil level regularly to ensure proper lubrication and performance of the transmission.
