- Disconnect the fuel line and loosen the mounting screws on the bottom of the tank.
- Drain the gas into a suitable container.
Step 2: Remove the fuel valve and petcock.
- Using a screwdriver or wrench, remove the fuel valve and petcock.
Step 3: Shake the tank.
- Hold the tank upside down and shake it vigorously to dislodge any loose dirt or debris.
Step 4: Flush the tank.
- Pour a gallon of white vinegar into the tank. Let the vinegar sit for at least 30 minutes.
- Shake the tank again and drain the vinegar.
- Repeat this process until the tank is clean.
Step 5: Dry the tank.
- Blow compressed air into the tank to dry it thoroughly.
- Be sure to get all the moisture out of the tank, as this can lead to rust.
Step 6: Apply a fuel tank sealant.
- To protect the tank from rust, apply a fuel tank sealant.
- There are many different types of fuel tank sealants available, so be sure to read the instructions carefully before using one.
