Materials Needed:
- New oil filter (check owner's manual for the correct size)
- New oil (check owner's manual for the correct type and amount)
- Oil drain pan
- Funnel
- Wrench
- Rags
Instructions:
1. Park your car on level ground and turn off the engine. Engage the parking brake.
2. Open the hood of your car.
3. Locate the oil drain plug. It is usually located on the bottom of the oil pan, near the front of the vehicle.
4. Place the oil drain pan under the drain plug.
5. Use the wrench to loosen and remove the drain plug. Be careful, as the oil may be hot.
6. Allow all of the oil to drain out into the pan. This may take a few minutes.
7. Once the oil has stopped draining, replace the drain plug. Tighten the plug securely with the wrench.
8. Locate the oil filter. It is usually located on the top of the engine.
9. Use the wrench to loosen and remove the oil filter. Be careful, as the oil filter may be full of oil.
10. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.
11. Screw the new oil filter onto the engine. Tighten the filter securely with the wrench.
12. Add new oil to the engine. Use the funnel to add oil slowly to the engine.
13. Check the oil level with the dipstick. The oil level should be between the "Full" and "Add" marks on the dipstick.
14. Close the hood of your car.
15. Start your engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the new oil throughout the engine.
Tips:
- Make sure to recycle your used oil and oil filter.
- If you are not comfortable changing the oil on your own, you can always take your car to a mechanic to have the oil changed.
