There are two possibilities:
1. Separate Reservoir: Look for a smaller reservoir, often clear plastic, near the main windshield washer fluid reservoir. It might be labeled or have a nozzle specifically for the rear wiper. The cap will likely be similar to the windshield washer fluid cap.
2. Shared Reservoir with Windshield Washers: Many vehicles, especially from that era, simply use the same reservoir for both front and rear washers. In this case, you'll only find one reservoir under the hood, typically larger and for the front windshield. Filling this reservoir will also fill the rear washer system.
To find the reservoir:
* Open the hood: Locate the hood release lever (usually inside the car near the steering wheel or under the dashboard). Open the hood.
* Look around the engine compartment: Look near the firewall (the area separating the engine compartment from the passenger compartment), often on the passenger side (right side in the US). You should see a clear or opaque plastic reservoir with a cap.
* Check for labels: Look for labels that indicate "washer fluid" or have symbols depicting a windshield wiper.
* If unsure, consult your owner's manual: The owner's manual for your 1997 Ford Taurus wagon will definitively show you the location of the washer fluid reservoir(s).
Once you've located the correct reservoir, simply unscrew the cap and add washer fluid. Avoid overfilling.
