1. Park your car on a level surface and turn off the engine.
2. Open the hood of your car and locate the transmission fluid dipstick. It is usually located near the back of the engine compartment, on the driver's side.
3. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a rag.
4. Reinsert the dipstick into the transmission fluid tube until it is fully seated.
5. Pull out the dipstick again and check the fluid level. It should be between the "Full" and "Add" marks on the dipstick.
6. If the fluid level is low, add enough transmission fluid to bring it up to the "Full" mark.
7. Replace the dipstick and close the hood of your car.
Note: If the transmission fluid is dark brown or black, it is time for a transmission fluid change. You can either have this done at a mechanic shop or you can do it yourself.
