How do you change drive belt on 1998 el falcon?

Tools You'll Need:

- Socket set (10mm and 13mm)

- Wrench (10mm and 13mm)

- Drive belt tensioner tool

- New drive belt

Instructions

1. Locate the drive belt. It is located at the front of the engine, and is the belt that runs around the alternator, power steering pump, and water pump.

2. Loosen the drive belt tensioner. Use the 10mm wrench to turn the tensioner pulley counterclockwise until the spring-loaded arm can be pushed into the released position.

3. Remove the old drive belt. Once the tensioner is released, you can remove the old drive belt by slipping it off the pulleys.

4. Install the new drive belt. Start by putting the new drive belt around the crankshaft pulley. Then, wrap it around the alternator pulley and the power steering pump pulley. Finally, put it around the water pump pulley.

5. Adjust the drive belt tension. Use the 10mm wrench to turn the tensioner pulley counterclockwise until the spring-loaded arm can be pushed into the released position. Then, move the spring-loaded arm to the tight position and use the 13mm socket wrench to tighten the nut on the tensioner.

6. Test the drive belt tension. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Then, press down on the drive belt with your finger. The belt should have about 1/2 inch of play. If it is too tight or too loose, adjust the tensioner until it is correct.

7. Reattach the drive belt cover. Once the drive belt tension is correct, you can reattach the drive belt cover.

Note: If you have any difficulty changing the drive belt, you may want to consult with a qualified mechanic.
