1. Make sure that the car is in the "Park" position and that the engine is turned off.
2. Find the diagnostic connector, which is usually located under the dashboard on the driver's side.
3. Connect a jumper wire between the "Self-Check" or "Check Engine" terminal and ground (any non-painted metal surface).
4. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position, but do not start the engine.
5. Leave the ignition switch in the "ON" position for at least 10 seconds, then turn it back to the "OFF" position.
6. Remove the jumper wire from the diagnostic connector.
7. Start the engine and check to see if the check engine light is reset.
If the check engine light remains on after performing these steps, it is recommended that you have a qualified mechanic diagnose and repair the underlying issue causing the light to come on.
