How do you change a timing chain on 2006 Kia Sorento?

Tools Required:

- 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set

- 1/2-inch ratchet and socket set

- Torque wrench

- Flat-blade screwdriver

- Phillips-head screwdriver

- Timing belt tensioner tool

- Timing belt alignment tool

Instructions:

1. Prepare the vehicle: Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Allow the engine to cool completely. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the accessory drive belt: Remove the serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner and slipping the belt off of the pulleys.

3. Remove the valve cover: Remove the valve cover bolts and lift off the valve cover.

4. Locate the timing marks: The timing marks are located on the camshaft gears and the crankshaft gear. The camshaft gears have a single notch, while the crankshaft gear has two notches.

5. Set the engine to TDC: Turn the crankshaft until the TDC mark on the crankshaft gear aligns with the pointer on the timing chain cover. The camshaft gears should also be aligned with their respective marks.

6. Remove the timing chain tensioner: Loosen the timing chain tensioner bolt and remove the tensioner.

7. Remove the timing chain: Remove the old timing chain from the camshaft gears and crankshaft gear.

8. Install the new timing chain: Install the new timing chain on the camshaft gears and crankshaft gear. Ensure the timing marks are aligned when installing the chain.

9. Install the timing chain tensioner: Install the timing chain tensioner and tighten the bolt to the specified torque.

10. Reinstall the valve cover: Reinstall the valve cover and tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

11. Reinstall the accessory drive belt: Reinstall the serpentine belt by tightening the tensioner and slipping the belt onto the pulleys.

12. Reconnect the negative battery cable: Reconnect the negative battery cable.

13. Start the engine and check for leaks: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks from the timing chain cover or oil pan.

14. Adjust the ignition timing: If the ignition timing is incorrect, you will need to adjust it. This can be done by turning the distributor or using a timing light.

15. Test drive the vehicle: Take the vehicle for a test drive to ensure the timing chain is functioning properly.
