1. Gather the necessary tools and materials:
- Replacement fuel door actuator (check with your Toyota dealer for the correct part number)
- Phillips-head screwdriver
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Pliers
- Trim removal tool (optional)
- Socket wrench set (optional)
2. Prepare the vehicle:
- Park your Toyota in a safe and level location.
- Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down completely.
- Engage the parking brake.
3. Locate the fuel door actuator:
- The fuel door actuator is usually located behind the fuel door.
- It is a small, black plastic device with a wire connector attached to it.
4. Disconnect the wire connector:
- Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry open the locking tab on the wire connector.
- Gently pull the connector straight out of the actuator.
5. Remove the fuel door actuator:
- Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the two screws that secure the actuator to the fuel door.
- Carefully remove the actuator from the fuel door.
6. Install the replacement actuator:
- Place the new actuator into the fuel door.
- Secure it with the two screws you removed earlier.
- Reconnect the wire connector.
7. Test the fuel door:
- Close and open the fuel door several times to ensure that the actuator is working properly.
8. Reattach the trim (if necessary):
- If you removed any trim pieces during the repair, reinstall them now.
9. Clean up:
- Clean up any tools or debris that you may have used during the repair.
