Tools and materials needed
* Socket set
* Screwdriver
* Pliers
* Replacement brushes and bushes
* Grease
Instructions
1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Remove the starter.
3. Remove the end cover of the starter.
4. Remove the old brushes and bushes.
5. Clean the starter commutator and housing.
6. Apply a small amount of grease to the new brushes and bushes.
7. Insert the new brushes and bushes into the starter.
8. Replace the end cover of the starter.
9. Reinstall the starter.
10. Reconnect the battery.
Testing the starter
1. Connect a battery charger to the starter.
2. Turn on the battery charger.
3. The starter should turn over.
4. If the starter does not turn over, check the following:
- The battery connections are tight.
- The starter is properly grounded.
- The brushes and bushes are properly installed.
5. If the starter still does not turn over, it may need to be replaced.
Tips
* When replacing the brushes and bushes, be sure to use OEM parts.
* Be careful not to damage the starter commutator when cleaning it.
* Apply a small amount of grease to the new brushes and bushes to help them to slide smoothly.
* Test the starter before reinstalling it to make sure that it is working properly.
