Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare your car.
Park on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down. If the car has hubcaps, remove them. If the car has lug nuts, loosen them with the lug wrench but do not remove them. Jack up the car and place it on jack stands.
Step 2: Remove the brake drums.
Use the lug wrench to remove the lug nuts and then remove the wheel. Locate the brake drum and remove the two screws that hold it in place. If necessary, use a screwdriver to pry the drum off the axle.
Step 3: Inspect the brake shoes.
Once the drum is removed, you can inspect the brake shoes. They should be about 1/4 inch thick and should not have any cracks or chips. If they are worn out, replace them with new ones.
Step 4: Clean the brake drums.
Use brake cleaner and a rag to clean the brake drums. Remove any dirt, debris, or grease that may be present.
Step 5: Install the new brake shoes.
Place the new brake shoes in the brake drums and make sure that they are seated properly. Make sure that the brake shoes are not too thick or too thin, as this could cause problems with braking.
Step 6: Install the new brake drums.
Place the new brake drums on the axles and secure them with the two screws. Make sure that the drums are seated properly and that they do not rub against the brake shoes.
Step 7: Install the wheel.
Place the wheel on the axle and secure it with the lug nuts. Tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern until they are snug.
Step 8: Bleed the brakes.
Use a brake bleeder to bleed the brakes and remove any air from the system. Refer to a service manual for the proper procedure for bleeding brakes on your car.
Step 9: Test the brakes.
Once you have finished bleeding the brakes, test them to make sure that they are working properly. Press the brake pedal and make sure that the car comes to a stop without any problems.
Step 10: Lower the car.
Use the jack to lower the car off the jack stands.
