1. Disconnect the battery. This will prevent the engine from starting while you are working on the timing.
2. Remove the distributor cap. This is the black plastic cover on top of the distributor.
3. Locate the timing marks. There is one timing mark on the crankshaft pulley and one on the cylinder head.
4. Align the timing marks. Use a wrench to turn the crankshaft pulley until the timing marks are aligned.
5. Tighten the distributor hold-down bolt. This will hold the distributor in place.
6. Reconnect the battery.
7. Start the engine and check the timing. Use a timing light to check the timing. The timing should be at 10 degrees before top dead center (BTDC).
8. Adjust the timing if necessary. If the timing is not correct, loosen the distributor hold-down bolt and turn the distributor until the timing is correct. Tighten the distributor hold-down bolt.

* Make sure that the engine is cold before you start working.
* Use a high-quality timing light.
