How do you change lower ball joints on a 2001 Volvo v 70 t 5?

Tools Needed

* Jack and jack stands

* Lug wrench

* Socket set

* Wrench set

* Ball joint press

Instructions

1.) Park your vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.

2.) Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels, then jack up the vehicle and place it on jack stands.

3.) Remove the lug nuts and wheels, then remove the brake caliper bracket from the lower control arm.

4.) Remove the Cotter pin and castle nut that holds the ball joint to the steering knuckle.

5.) Use a ball joint press to separate the ball joint from the steering knuckle.

6.) Remove the old ball joint from the control arm.

7.) Install the new ball joint into the control arm, and tighten the nut until it is snug.

8.) Reinstall the castle nut and Cotter pin, then reinstall the brake caliper bracket.

9.) Lower the vehicle, reinstall the wheels, and tighten the lug nuts.

Note: It is important to torque the castle nut to the proper specification. The torque specification for the castle nut on a 2001 Volvo V 70 T5 is 55 ft-lbs.
