- Replacement drive belt
- Adjustable wrench
- Screwdriver
- Safety glasses
Step 2: Locate the Deck Belt Tensioner:
Find the tensioner pulley, usually located on the side or underneath the mower deck. It is responsible for maintaining proper belt tension.
Step 3: Release Tension:
- Position the adjustable wrench on the tensioner pulley bolt or lever and turn it counterclockwise to release tension from the belt.
Step 4: Remove the Old Drive Belt:
- Once the tension is released, the belt should be loose enough to slip off the pulleys.
- Remove the old drive belt from both the engine pulley and the deck pulley.
Step 5: Install the New Drive Belt:
- Place the new drive belt around the engine pulley first, then around the deck pulley.
- Make sure the belt is properly seated in the grooves of the pulleys.
Step 6: Reapply Tension:
- Use the adjustable wrench to turn the tensioner pulley bolt or lever clockwise until the new belt is tight but not overtightened. The specific tension requirements may be found in your mower's user manual.
Step 7: Recheck the Belt:
- Ensure that the belt is correctly aligned with the pulleys and is not twisted.
Step 8: Test the Mower:
- Start the mower and engage the blades to check if the belt is functioning correctly.
Step 9: Safety First:
- Make sure the engine is turned off and the parking brake is engaged before working on your mower.
- Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes.
