How do you refill or change the transmission oil in a BMW m50 auto trans with no dip stick?

To refill or change transmission oil in a BMW M50 automatic transmission without a dipstick, you'll need the following tools and materials:

- New transmission oil (refer to your owner's manual for the correct type and quantity)

- A fluid transfer pump or funnel

- A 17mm hex key or wrench

- A jack and jack stands (optional, for easier access to the transmission pan)

Procedure:

1. If necessary, raise the vehicle using the jack and jack stands to gain better access to the transmission pan.

2. Locate the transmission pan. It is typically situated underneath the transmission housing, and in the M50, it's made of aluminum.

3. Clean the area around the transmission pan to prevent any dirt or debris from entering the transmission during the process.

4. Use the 17mm hex key or wrench to loosen and remove the drain plug from the transmission pan. Allow the old transmission oil to drain completely into a suitable container.

5. Once all the old oil has drained out, clean the drain plug and reinstall it. Tighten the drain plug securely.

6. Locate the transmission oil fill plug. In the M50 transmission, it's usually situated on the side of the transmission housing.

7. Remove the transmission oil fill plug. Insert the fluid transfer pump or funnel into the fill hole.

8. Begin adding the new transmission oil slowly. Refer to your owner's manual for the recommended amount of fluid to add.

9. While adding the new oil, keep checking the transmission fluid level. To do this, start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Then, turn off the engine and wait a few minutes for the oil to settle.

10. Use your finger or a dipstick (if available) to check the transmission fluid level. The fluid level should be between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks on the dipstick.

11. If necessary, add more transmission oil until the desired level is reached.

12. Reinstall the transmission oil fill plug and tighten it securely.

After refilling or changing the transmission oil, test drive the vehicle to check for proper function and any potential leaks.
