How do you replace the alternator on a 2000 VW Jetta VR6?

Tools

* Ratchet

* Socket set

* 10mm wrench

* 13mm wrench

* 15mm wrench

* 17mm wrench

* Flat-head screwdriver

* Pliers

* Vise grips

Instructions

1. Disconnect the battery. This will prevent any sparks from occurring while you are working on the alternator.

2. Remove the air intake hose. This will give you access to the alternator.

3. Remove the serpentine belt. This is done by loosening the tensioner pulley and then slipping the belt off of the pulleys.

4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the alternator. This is done by pressing down on the release tab and then pulling the connector apart.

5. Remove the upper and lower alternator mounting brackets. These are located on the front of the engine.

6. Remove the alternator from the vehicle. This is done by lifting the alternator up and out of the engine bay.

7. Install the new alternator in reverse order of removal. Be sure to tighten all of the bolts and screws properly.

8. Reconnect the battery and start the vehicle. Check for any leaks or unusual noises.
