1. Gather your tools. You will need a scan tool, either an OBD-II scanner or a Land Rover-specific scanner.
2. Connect the scan tool to the vehicle's diagnostic port. The diagnostic port is usually located under the dashboard on the driver's side.
3. Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
4. Select the "Read Codes" or "Check Codes" option on the scan tool.
5. The scan tool will display any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that are stored in the vehicle's computer.
6. Write down the DTCs. These codes will help you identify the problem that is causing the check engine light to illuminate.
7. Once you have written down the DTCs, select the "Erase Codes" or "Reset ECU" option on the scan tool.
8. The scan tool will erase the DTCs from the vehicle's computer.
9. Turn off the ignition and disconnect the scan tool.
10. Start the engine and check to see if the check engine light is still illuminated. If it is not, then the codes have been successfully cleared.
Note: If the check engine light comes back on after you have reset it, then there is still a problem with the vehicle that needs to be addressed. You should have the vehicle diagnosed by a qualified mechanic to identify and fix the problem.
